Undergraduate / Cornell essay (School of Industrial and Labor Relations) [2]

ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!! I know I have some more work to do. I am really frustrated.

School of Industrial and Labor Relations:
Describe your intellectual interests, their evolution, and what makes them exciting to you. In your essay please address how the ILR curriculum will help you fulfill these interests and your long-term goals.

During the concluding part of my 8th grade year up until my senior year I never truly realized how much of a positive impact or influence I had on my peers, family, teachers, and the community. I have always had a great enjoyment in helping others. It never dawned on me on the amount of people that I assisted throughout the years, I would be considered the "go to guy" if there was a problem of some sort. At school there would be a lot of kids who I did not personally know me but would come up to me seeking help in math, or chemistry because they were told by other peers I was very smart and that I would be able to help them. I take great pride in help others receive good grades on any assignment that they produce, because I get the right to say "I truly helped somebody."

Additionally to helping others out, I get a better idea of what the material is saying and that allows me to become more familiarized with what is happening and what is being said. It is for these reasons that I believe I have a natural gift to serve others and people gravitate to me because of my willingness to share knowledge with them. This why I have chosen the ILR program, because it will enhance my leadership skills, help me manage and work with people on a professional level, and be a productive problem solver if a conflict arises. All the time in business, conflicts between big corporations and small business happen. Adding on the experience that I already possess of being a team leader and problem solver and furthering making it better, I could contribute ideas that could one day make a positive difference to people lives in the community and worldwide. This is why I strongly feel that if I am given the opportunity to attend the Industrial and Labor Relations school I would be great candidate and one you would be proud if selected.

ILR will provide me with the in depth knowledge and preparation needed to interact better with workers and employers in the work force, get a better understanding of the functionality and dynamics of the market for labor, and knowing how to incorporate strategies and policies in relation to managing individuals. As my teacher had put it, I am a "systematic problem solver." With this type of preparation I have no doubt that ILR will successfully help me reach my long terms of upholding a leadership and managerial position on a corporate level nationally or internationally, while at the same time improving working people lives.

Undergraduate / (Challenge / Math / Business school / MBA program) - Columbia short [2]

NEED HELP..I NO IT IS LONG BUT ANY THING WILL BE HELPFUL!!!!

Please tell us what you found meaningful about one of the above mentioned books, publications or cultural events.
While reading The Red Badge of Courage, I realized that one must not be afraid of a challenge when it is presented to them. I learned that even when a task is bigger and may be overwheling for that person to face, with perserverance and faith one can go far. If the leader falls down in the midst of battle, you can not be afraid to step up to the plate and lead your fellow troops. From The Red Badge of Courage, I learned that you can not fabricate or lie to achieve honor. Honor is earned not just given out. The Red Badge of Courages teaches that one must work for their fair share. The Red Badge of Courage instills the fact that the word is tough and one must be strong enough to overcome the adversities and problems that arise. One must not flee from battle, but confront fear in the eye and say "I will not be denied my rights."

What is your favorite math class and why?
My favorite academic class that has been Math, because I love working with numbers. Math always gives you a definite answer most of the time. Math deals with a lot of thinking and different types of ways to solve problems. I like Math, because there is more than one way to solve a problem. Math is life. Math controls the way you think and how you react to situations. If you mess up on a problem, you take you pencil, erase the answer, and write the correct answer. I like math, because it is visual. Like in geometry you can see how the answer become to be with out wondering where it came from. Math is all about logic and with out math I would be lost.

Please tell us what you find most appealing about Columbia and why?
What I find most appealing about Columbia University is their business school. By Columbia being ranked among the best business schools in the United States and around the world, I know it is guaranteed that I can make something of myself in life. Another aspect that makes Columbia so interesting is that its location is in New York City, past friends say the dorms are great, and the campus is small but pleasant. I also hear that the work load at Columbia is alot and that is what I am all about. No matter how long it takes I will stay motivated into getting my work done and being the best.

For applicants to Columbia College, please tell us what attracts you specifically to the field or fields of study that you noted in the Application Data section. If you are currently undecided, please write about any field or fields in which you may have interest at this time, but have not yet selected as a major interest.

What attracts me to the Business School at Columbia University is the MBA Program. I was interested to see that the Columbia MBA Program does not just recognize opportunity, but they create it. They take the special abilties of young, intelligent minds and constantly evolves it into something greater when they started. The Columbia MBA Program is also not focused on one attribute but 4. They will help my skills to provide me with the tools to lead and manage in today's ever-changing business landscape. They supply me with initiative,in which wil help a superior student like myself succeed in the fast changing and competitive world of business. For me being a advocate of hard work, Columbia adminsters hard work in which they can teach me new technqiues on how to solve problems in a simpler way. The most important skill they teach is creating opportunity. Columbia University gives you the industry practice to give you precisely the right classroom for unlimited professional and personal development. The School is also committed to providing students with an education that last and evolves over a lifetime.

Undergraduate / 'I see life' - Williams essay, looking through a window [3]

Imagine looking through a window at any environment that is particularly significant to you. Reflect on the scene, paying close attention to the relation between what you are seeing and why it is meaningful to you. Please limit your statement to 300 words.

When I look through a window, I see life. I see children playing on a green field and having a merry time. I see the cheerfulness and the laughs on their faces. I see old people sitting under a tree reminiscing on the good old days when they were once young. I see birds flying over the green, crisp land looking for food to bring home to their babies. I see squirrels running up and down the trees trying to search for nuts. Looking through a window I see life. The sun comes upon the horizon and rooster makes its presence for the day to begin. Looking through a window I see opportunity. I see all the things that I can become in life if I put my mind to it. I see a business man who will one day become the head of a big corporation and be like Donald Trump and say "YOU'RE FIRED!" Sometimes when I look through a window I see darkness. The feeling of not knowing where you are going or what you are getting into. I could be walking in circles instead of going forward or running to fast and falling off the edge of a cliff. But just as fate was sealed its self, a bright light shines through glass and a luminous ray is laid upon the Caspian Sea. Looking through a window I see waves. I see a fishermen hunting for food to survive, while competing with Mother Nature. I see the determination of human beings and how they cope with other individuals in the real world. When looking through a window the things that you find is limitless. The world is constantly changing and the view is not always what you want it to be; we must learn to adapt.

Undergraduate / "The Gentle Giant" college personal essay (topic of my choice) [2]

The Gentle Giant"

It was in Kindergarten when I first discovered what I wanted to be. Mrs. Hale asked my "Chazz what do you want to be when you grow up?" I replied "a police officer so I could eat donuts." Standing 4 feet 11 inches and wearing a size seven shoe the expectations on being a police officer seemed unreal in the eyes of my peers; I was to become the next Shaq.

In my elementary years I was the tallest kid in the school. I had no interest in basketball. Playing video games and eating food was my passion. Those were the only goals that I worried about putting in the basket. Parents made unnecessary comments to their children that made me feel uncomfortable. One parent said "Jack, why are you with that older boy?" Jack said "mom he is in my grade, he is only 9. People would just look at me and just stare at me like I was this "giant". People would call me big foot, Sasquatch, and all other names that caused me to feel awkward. Usually the big kid picks on the little ones, but instead I was their main target. All the emotions and feelings that were bottled up inside me, I was more determined to let people see who the real Chazz Miller was.

From the third grade to the eighth grade, I made nothing but A's and B's. I dedicated myself to reading two books every week and devoting myself to studies, rather than playing outside with my friends. The perception of being just a basketball player started to change. Students would see my grades and would ask me if I could help them out on a few pointers. For the first time in my life I felt like I was more than just a basketball player. People saw the kindness and helpfulness that I offered. Standing tall at 6 '5 and wearing a size 17 shoes, people gave me the name "Gentle Giant".

Today people look up to me as a leader and caring person. Call police officer Chazz and help will be on the way. In my senior year I got student of the month award for tutoring a group of 30 kids in Chemistry before exams. Teachers were getting swamped by all the students coming in and asking for help, so I stepped in and took over. As a result, 30 students passed with 80's and above. My friends joke with me and tell me that one day I will be a teacher. It gives me great comfort to give help to people that need it. I take great pride to say that I am a scholar athlete who is 6'8 and has a 3.8 GPA. The timeless hours and dedication that I invested in myself to prove to people that I am nothing paid off. I said I wanted to become a police officer to eat donuts, but now I have a purpose to help people.

Undergraduate / 'I hope to major in Biology' - UPenn [12]

I think the use of the Ben Franklin mention in your essay was a clever idea. You showed what sparked interest in you to consider the UPenn program. There was no grammatical errors here, just reduce the paper to about 480 to 490 and you should be fine. Good Luck!!!!!

Undergraduate / Princeton Supplement - Describe someone who has had an influence on you. [4]

You start off with alot of wordiness and things that are irrelavant. Of course everybody has people that have influenced them in their lives. You need to get to the point of who has influenced you in your life. That is the concentration of the essay. Also making a list of the people that can influence you in your life is also not needed. I am also a little confused on how Pager actually has influenced you. give more examples and experiences that shows that.

Undergraduate / 'Dancing in my room' Mount Holyoke - What activities make you lose track of time? [15]

I agree with maryp630. The second paragraph was better than the first. In the first paragraph explain a little bit more better. But then you go from dancing to soccer then stretching to sleeping. Like maryp630 said find one thing or at least 2 activity or activities then elaborate on that. It will make it more easier and simpler rather than going all over the place and causing confusion.

Undergraduate / 'the concentration and focus on the major' - hope and learn from the Penn Community [2]

Considering both the specific undergraduate school to which you are applying and the unique aspects of the University of Pennsylvania, what do you hope to learn from and contribute to the Penn community? (Please answer in one page, approximately 500 words.)

The program that most interests me is the Wharton School. The exceptional attribute that distinguishes the Wharton School from any other business school is the concentration and focus on the major, rather than it just being a major. The Wharton School holds the maximum degree of tractability of any business school that I have examined. If I decide to change courses, I could create an individualized concentration. An additional unique quality is the natural sense of homogeneity. When graduating from the Wharton School, students naturally receive a Bachelor of Science in Economics, which in the long can make it easier for me to develop true teamwork skills with other Wharton students. It can also help remove some of the cut-throat competition that could be generated if some degrees that Wharton undergraduates could receive were further eye -catching to the present employment market than others. Having teamwork skills are necessary if anyone wants to run or work for a business. Practicing teamwork skills at the Wharton School can help prepare me for the real world.

An additional characteristic that stands out to me at the University of Pennsylvania is students are trained by professors who at the top of their fields of study. The opportunity is great for me, because it gives me the motivation and determination to one day be successful as they are. I desire to be the best and achieve my full capacity. Being educated by people that have accomplished the success at the Penn Community gives me hope to work harder to have those same satisfactions. I truly believe that by going to the University of Pennsylvania, I will have the right people in my corner to push me to be the best persons that I can be in all aspects. The ride is going to be a challenge, but I am ready to take this journey.

The greatest quality that separates the University of Pennsylvania from other school is the diverse student clubs, the wide range of sports, all the entertainment, and cultural activities. The Ipso facto tradition Penn's administration guarantees that students can find a hale and hearty equilibrium between their academics and their social lives without them ever losing any focus of why they are there. The balance in regard to academics helps the students cope with stress and ease the tension that they encounter during academic sessions.

I am a great candidate for the Penn Community, because I have the skilled mindset and hard working attitude to live up to the legacy of the prestigious minds of the Penn tradition. I know that I will be able to take full advantage of the incredible amount of resources and research opportunities that only Penn can provide to further my pedagogic desires and goals. I have great initiative and I am always looking for competition, in which the real world offers. The greatest quality that I have is the ability to help others. Deep down I know that I can do well both academically and socially in the Penn Community. This is why I am a good match for the University of Pennsylvania.
