Undergraduate / THEATER/ MOVIES; NYU /ACADEMIC INTEREST [4]

I do not like I am prepared and would change it to I am excited. Also, you need to strengthen the link between watching movies and making movies. I love watching movies but would never want to make them.

alrighty, thank you. I really appreciate your feedback

Undergraduate / THEATER/ MOVIES; NYU /ACADEMIC INTEREST [4]

A. NYU's global network provides students with hundreds of academic areas of interest for students to cultivate their intellectual curiosity and to help achieve their career goals. Whether you are entirely undecided about your academic plans or you have a definitive program of study in mind, what are your own academic interests? Feel free to share any thoughts on any particular programs or how you might explore those interests at NYU on any of our campuses.

As a child, when most of my friends were off at summer camp, I would be relaxing at the movie theater. When my friends wanted to play video games, I wanted to watch movies. When my friends or family wanted to watch movies, I was in heaven. My obsession with this art form continued to grow as I got older. The ability to visually tell stories by creating new worlds and characters fascinated me. Eventually, I realized that I wanted to become a filmmaker. After trying and failing many times to fit a video production or film studies class into my schedule at school, I began to educate myself about film by reading books, watching YouTube videos, and doing as much hands on work as possible.

Now I am prepared to get a real education in film. NYU New York is the perfect place for me to begin my journey. The Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film and Television is home to the most prestigious and renowned film program in the world. Through its Craft Production and Scriptwriting courses, such as Directing the Actor, Film Marketing and Distribution, and Comedy Writing for Film and Television, I will increase my knowledge of advertising and selling my films, and become a better comedic storyteller by learning how to work better with my actors and by gaining the required writing skills. Located in New York City, NYU can provide me with the ultimate education required to become a great director through its curriculum, internships, and by exposing me to a wide variety of cultures and customs.

Undergraduate / The Alchemist ; NYU /What intrigues you? [13]

ALRIGHT GUYS HERE'S A REVISED VERSION

"Those who speak most of illness have illness, those who speak most of prosperity have it." According to the Law of Attraction, positive thoughts attract positive rewards, and negative thoughts attract negative results in one's life. Throughout history, many successful men and women have attributed this law for their success; philosophers have discussed this law under many different names. Napoleon Hill named it the Law of Success, Rhonda Byrne named it The Secret, and the list goes on. I first learned about this law after reading Paolo Coelho's novel, The Alchemist, which tells the story of a little boy who goes on an epic journey to the Egyptian Pyramids and uses the Law of Attraction in order to find a buried treasure and fulfill his destiny.

I am an avid believer of this law. No, I don't believe that anyone can just sit back and think positively about being rich and successful and it will happen. But I believe that when combined with hard work, one can achieve his or her full potential and succeed at anything. I believe that regardless of whether or not our minds have a reciprocal relationship with the universe, the Law of Attraction is a key to success because it allows one to remove as much doubt and negativity from their lives as possible and pushes them to surround themselves with positive likeminded people. By doing so, I was able to succeed in my classes and assume the role of senior class vice president, among other leadership roles in my school and community.

Undergraduate / The Alchemist ; NYU /What intrigues you? [13]

B. What intrigues you? Tell us about one work of art, scientific achievement, piece of literature, method of communication, or place in the world (a film, book, performance, website, event, location, etc.), and explain its significance to you.

"It's precisely the possibility of making a dream come true that makes life interesting." Lines like this, along with the plot, are what make Paulo Coelho's novel, The Alchemist, such an inspirational story. The Alchemist tells the story of a shepherd boy, Santiago, who has a recurring dream of a child taking him to the Egyptian Pyramids. After a gypsy tells him that this dream is the universe telling him to fulfill his destiny, Santiago embarks on an epic journey to the Egyptian Pyramids in which he gains wisdom, and finds true love and a buried treasure. The Alchemist is a step by step guide on how to use the law which governs success in this universe; the Law of Attraction. I've read about this law in many books but Santiago's journey to the Pyramids was my introduction to the law.

From my freshman year of high school, I dreamed of attaining many leadership roles in my school, but didn't think that I could because I was the new kid and a wallflower. Upon reading The Alchemist during my sophomore year, I was immediately motivated to follow the Law of Attraction. I got out of my comfort zone, surrounded myself with positive people, and became a positive thinker. This allowed me to earn the leadership roles I wanted, such as senior class vice president, Mr. Echo (a community service representative for my school), and many more. I will continue to apply the Law of Attraction to my life and like Santiago, fulfill my destiny, by becoming a successful filmmaker.

Undergraduate / Laugh A Little (The study of cultures). UGA ESSAY. "The History of Horseracing" example [3]

UGA's First Year Odyssey Program offers more than 300 seminar courses for new freshmen. Some examples include "The History of Horseracing", "Einstein and the Theories of Relativity" and "The Zombie Plague" (Full listing here). If you could create your own seminar course at UGA in any subject area that interested you, what would it be? What would the course be named and what would you hope to learn? (200 Word Limit)

We live in a world with an abundance of different cultures. It helps to get educated on these cultures for business purposes but more importantly in order to appreciate and show respect for the many cultures that make up the world. At UGA I will create a seminar, called "Laugh A Little", which will give students a unique experience while educating them on the many cultures that surround them at UGA.

"Laugh A Little" will take place on Mondays in an open area on the UGA campus. Students of all races, ethnicities, and cultures will gather in a circle and one by one they will tell an inoffensive joke about a custom of their culture.

I believe that this will be a great way for students to connect and learn about each other's cultures in an entertaining and engaging way. Through this seminar, I will also be able to further my knowledge of cultures which I am unaware of and even the ones which I am aware of.

Undergraduate / Making dreams come true. What Intrigues you? NYU SUPPLEMENT [4]

@Admission2012,

How's this

"It's precisely the possibility of making a dream come true that makes life interesting." The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho, is a deep and meaningful novel filled with lines like this. The Alchemist is a great story for anyone with a dream. It tells the story of a young farmer, Santiago, who has a recurring dream, for many nights, of a little boy taking him to the Pyramids of Egypt. Santiago is told by a gypsy that the dream is a message from the universe telling him that he must travel to the Pyramids and find a treasure. Although this is a fictional book written in basic language, it teaches valuable life lessons and philosophies on the idea of making a dream come true.

The Alchemist inspired me to read books such as the 48 Laws of Power, The Secret, and more which put me on the right mind set in order to be successful in life from a young age. Throughout high school, The Alchemist had the most significant impact on my life because I could relate to Santiago; I too was a young boy who had big dreams and had no clue of how to achieve them since I was the new kid. But by applying its lessons on working hard now and staying committed to my goals in order to have fun later, like how Santiago chased his dreams before settling down with his true love Fatima, I was able to achieve everything I wanted to: I won my school's yearly pageant and won the title of Mr. Echo, stayed in the top ten percent of my class every year, and finally became the senior class vice president.

Undergraduate / Surrounded by spices - Looking through the window ;Williams College [12]

Again, admissions officers have no business in this matter, but when you specifically write about it, you force them to form an opinion as they are after all human. I would highly reconsider removing a few elements here to focus your essay solely on your mother's tenacity.

Agreed. Remember to only present what you're willing to get judged on. Anything in the essay should relate to your main reason for writing this but never go into anything that could be a little too negative. And as far as the word count, I believe that you should stay within your limit. Don't go above

Undergraduate / It's a form of storytelling; NYU SUPPLEMENT ESSAY [2]

NYU's global network provides students with hundreds of academic areas of interest for students to cultivate their intellectual curiosity and to help achieve their career goals. Whether you are entirely undecided about your academic plans or you have a definitive program of study in mind, what are your own academic interests? Feel free to share any thoughts on any particular programs or how you might explore those interests at NYU on any of our campuses.

To some people, it's just a dark room where a bunch of strangers sit together for two hours and stare at a projection on a white screen. But it's more than that; it's a form of storytelling. Here lessons are learned, people are entertained, art is presented to an audience. I enjoy taking part in this activity; in fact this is where a large amount of my childhood was spent. In these dark rooms which were in my mind, full of life, color, and light by these films. This led me to pursue a career as a filmmaker. NYU New York is the perfect place for me to start this journey. The Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film and Television is home to one of the top film programs in the world. At this institute, I plan to do a large amount of hands on work and fulfill NYU's mission statement: become a better skilled filmmaker and storyteller while still earning a top quality education that competes with those of more traditional schools through NYU's Core Program, use NYU's Global Network to my full advantage by studying in Prague, London, and Paris to further my education in my academics, interesting cultures and to observe the beauty of the these countries, and lastly by taking part in NYU's internship program which will help me get established in the film industry and build my own network.

Undergraduate / NEED TO GET INTO MY DREAM SCHOOL; NYU SUPPLEMENT ESSAY. I am a film maker, a musician... [7]

A. For which campus would you like to be considered? NYU New York.
My family and I visited the colleges of my interest this summer. NYU was the most outstanding. Its campus was so unorthodox and the student body was extremely culturally diverse. During the information session the speaker declared that NYU looks for versatile students who can complement NYU's diverse student body. I'm a native French speaking, young, Muslim, black male. I was born in Egypt, raised in Ireland, where I learned English at the age of four, and now live in the United States. I am a film maker, a musician, and a leader in student government and empowerment programs for African American males. I would fit perfectly in NYU's melting pot of diverse cultures and talented students.
