Speeches / A farewell speech for a teacher who is leaving [6]

@Holt, your revision is excellent. But I have some problems with that. I have to use vocabulary that is intelligible to my audience. All the students, as well as teachers, will be present. The junior students (say, Preschool toddlers to the 3rd graders) will not understand my speech if I speak in your way. I have to make the speech simple, to-the-point, and brief. Above all, it should sound heartfelt and kind.

Putting that aside, I heart your revision. Making the technique a secret between me and my teacher eliminates the need to explain it. It is a fine idea and I am going to implement it in my speech.

Speeches / A farewell speech for a teacher who is leaving [6]

Here's my revised work:

Ladies and Gentlemen, Good Morning.

I'm Soha Farhin Pine from grade 7. We're all here to bid farewell to our exceptional teacher and mentor - Asma Miss. As we all know, today will be the very last day of Asma Miss in this school. Yes, we're all gonna miss her, to say the least. She's one of my favourite teachers and I bet, the favourite of many other students too.

I believe, she's an awesome teacher who teaches her students with the utmost patience, diligence, and most importantly, with love. To find another replacement for her is very difficult. Nah, impossible!

She had been the Spelling teacher of the senior section for a year. When I was promoted to secondary school, my Spelling scores began to fall. Spelling never had seemed so difficult to me. Even after racking my brain all day long, I could not spell the long, complicated words right. They were so freaking hard to spell.

Asma Miss helped me a lot. She was a life saver. She used a brilliant technique to make spelling a whole lot easier. She showed me that all words follow a pattern. Some words end in magic e so they are pronounced in a special way. Some end in -ment, while some end in -tion. Some words begin with smaller words that don't have a meaning of their own. She taught me to separate the prefixes and suffixes from a particular word in my mind, and think simply. Because of her, my Spelling scores started increasing dramatically and at one point, I became the spelling bee of my class. Me and my parents are indebted to her. I thank her for all the good things she has done. I don't respect her only for being a teacher or a guru, but more for being the kind, loving person she is.

We, the students all love her for being such a wonderful teacher and a person. Throughout her brief stay of a little more than 2 years at DIS, she has won the hearts of many students. All the moments she has spent with us will always be treasured.

Asma Miss,
You may go away from us, but at the same time, you'll never be too far away. You'll be close to our hearts. Always remember that we'll keep you in our hearts forever. Goodbyes are hard, but a goodbye never means one. Who knows whether or not we'll meet again? So, be happy - take that frown away from your face!

On behalf of everybody from this institution, I bid you farewell!

That's all I wanted to say. Thanks for listening to me.

-------------------------

I have been assigned to deliver a farewell speech, and this is what I've prepared. I feel that the phraseology in my work veers between formal and informal English. Note that in many places I have included unnecessary or redundant commas. Those commas actually indicate pauses that I will make while speaking. Please proofread this and suggest any improvements.

Undergraduate / Common App Prompt 5: How family problems helped catalyze my transition to adulthood. [3]

Hey @ashutosh123, I totally loved everything about your essay: the way you describe things, relate a situation, and gave your essay a voice of its own. This essay is, in short, a masterpiece. The way this essay has been written is fabulous.

The opening sentences are very powerful and immediately grips the attention of the reader. The reader becomes intrigued and you make him starve for more. The issue you chose to discussed itself is truly a dynamic one.

You did not get sidetracked at any point, and you held the reader's attention till the last. To be frank, I looked up only when I had finished reading.

Also, you wrote from within; you wrote from the core of your heart. This is the best thing I like about your write-up. The way you expressed your feelings and experiences proves this. This essay is not supposed to be that formal. This gave you the scope to write freely. Everything seemed natural and not at all forced, as the cause would be if it were a more formal piece of writing.

Warm wishes and good luck in your future endeavours,

Soha.

Writing Feedback / Short piece of writing on 'The Negative Impacts of Winter Season' [6]

This not actually an essay, but a little composition I wrote in my spare time. I know that it isn't very good as I did not write it properly. Just collecting my thoughts into a formal piece of writing. I'm thinking of showing this to my English teacher. This is why I posted it here so that it can be proofread. Due to time constraints, it is almost impossible for me to do so myself.

Writing Feedback / Short piece of writing on 'The Negative Impacts of Winter Season' [6]

Every season has its pros and cons. So does winter. And this write-up will focus on the negative impacts of the winter season.

First of all, during this time, temperatures are relatively low and the weather is cold. This means there is every risk of chilling and catching a bad cold or a deadly fever.

Also, the season is quite dry which is why our skin tends to become dry and brittle. In winter, we wear warm clothes covering much of our body. We, therefore, are less exposed to sunlight. This causes our skin to turn colourless and moistureless.

At daybreak, often thick fog or mist forms. For this, car drivers cannot view their surroundings properly and accidents take place not infrequently. A criminal is free to roam around and can easily commit crimes without anybody seeing it. In conclusion, the rates of street accidents and crimes rise during winter season.

A point worth mentioning is that we tend to feel lethargic during winter. Nobody actually wants to get out of the blanket and wake up early in the morning at winter. It is only circumstances that bounds most of us to do so. Our sense of responsibility forces us to combat the lethargy and work. Furthermore, water turns icy-cold and becomes difficult to use. We need to warm the water and then use it. This takes time and effort. Due to this inconvenience, our daily lives get hampered even though slightly.

In a nutshell, winter has many negative sides to consider. However, it's a general truth that good and bad go along. Everything consists of both good and bad in different ratios. One is incomplete without the other. The more easily we will learn to accept this fact, the easier and better our life will become.

Scholarship / Rejection as The start of another better future - Self Introduction Essay for KGSP/Master's Program [10]

Wow! That's an extremely powerful essay. The rejection from 2 of your favourite universities may be a sensitive point, however you included this topic of failure in this essay in an unique way - that you learned from failure, whenever things don't go how we think they'll go. I love your ideas!!

Lovely essay!! Though, at the end, the essay was lacking the 'attention gripping stuff' which didn't in the opening paragraphs.

Overall, nice work!! Appreciate it!!

I see you also re-wrote your essay at some parts; those new paragraphs certainly are perfect!!

I wish you good luck!! Hope you get the scholarship!!

Writing Feedback / A report on the poor conditions of the school cafeteria [2]

Task - There is a cafeteria in your school. The cafeteria sells stale food items. Also, the salesman misbehaves with the students. Your school co-ordinator has asked you to write a report on the matter with necessary recommendations.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Answer:

To: Jenat Miss, the academic coordinator, Daffodil International School, Dhanmondi, Dhaka
From: Soha Farhin Pine, Grade 6, Daffodil International School
Date: 28th January, 2016
Subject: A report on the poor conditions of the school cafeteria

Purpose:
This report briefly presents the information on the poor conditions of the school cafeteria.

The present conditions of the school cafeteria:
The present conditions of the school cafeteria are very poor. Now, our school cafeteria has become an inferior-quality one. Many students are having upset stomach, stomach ache, diarrhea, and such other types of stomach illnesses. The cause of such happening is that the school cafeteria has started selling stale and rotten food items. Very often it is found that the date of the served food items have expired, some are also found with green fungi sticking on top. This results into serious stomach diseases.

Furthermore, the salesman misbehaves with the students. A vast majority of the students are complaining about his arrogance and rude attitudes.

So, it can be clearly seen that the present conditions of the school cafeteria are very alarming.

Reaction of students and parents:
The current situation of the school cafeteria has drawn the anger of several parents, as well as, students. Many of the parents are so offended by this that they are deciding to quit sending their children to our school. Students have to resume their classes being full of hunger and thirst, as they cannot take the food from the school cafeteria. The school authority is being blamed for this.

Recommendations:
Our school cafeteria is in a very alarming state, indeed. The school authority needs to pay attention to this matter. I have devised a few suggestions that may help you in this matter.

The school authority can hold a peaceful, and friendly meeting with the parents. The parents should be informed that the school authority had no knowledge of this problem. The school authority should apologize to them, and also thank them for letting them know about the problem. This would surely cool down the parents for awhile.

In the meantime, we can also change the salesman and fine him for selling stale food items.
I hope these recommendations will be of any help to you. You are requested to solve this problem, as soon as possible.

Writing Feedback / Greed and Unsafe of Global Economic [3]

Excellent work! Certainly, impressing. You have expressed your viewpoints and general thoughts, in a very brief and precise manner. Grammatical mistakes and spelling mistakes are so minor and small in quantity that they do not affect readability of the text. It was a nice read. No over-rare words. Just simple, and nice. All the main ideas in this essay are arranged properly.

But, still, I am going to make some corrections-

1.Economic crisis in various countries have indicated that greed is bad for economy imunity .

= ... greed is bad for economy imunityimmunity.

2.Its effects are economic crime.

=It's effects are economic crime.

3.In addition, the global economic stiil is threatened by global greed.

= In addition, the global economic stiil is still being threatened by global greed.

Except these few ones, I was not able to find any! Your essay is quite descriptive, and well-written.

Hope that helps you!

Undergraduate / At a point in my life, everything was starting to fall apart. Correct flow of this common app essay? [4]

Hey! Nice to have a Bangladesh, here (since, I too am a Bangladeshi). I will be glad to help you.

I start with answering your first question. Should I include more in the past ...

If you want your essay to be dynamic, you should include more of the adulthood part. That's what that will make you get to the point.

Anyways, the essay is a well-written piece, I have to say. It's excellent. Grammatical mistakes are so minor that they do not affect the readability of the text. It's quite satisfying!

Hope I was able to be of any help to you!

Writing Feedback / Ease your education with Internet [3]

I am gonna send this writing to a magazine. Please review it and correct any grammatical mistake.

==========================================

Technology surrounds us. It affects almost all aspects of our daily lives, including education. Nowadays, there are two kinds of medium for education:

- Traditional paper books
- Internet

Internet is used for many different purposes. Getting information is the foremost type. Information that eases education. Internet can facilitate education with the facilities and the information or from the things it provides. That's it! Internet helps us by providing up-to-date information which immensely facilitates education at the twenty-first century.

Different educational websites:

Different educational websites are present on the Internet. They provide knowledge about many things. Some websites offer live chat with teachers. Some also offer answers to any question given.

BOOKMARK:

Have you ever noticed a star or heart in the address bar?? Have you ever thought of clicking on that?? Then, do from now, because it is the bookmarking star/heart.

While going from site-to-site on the Internet, you can get lost! You can also easily forget the URL or name of any website. You may then find it difficult to go back to a site that you had liked. To avoid this difficulty, all web browsers give a special facility called the bookmark. Think of a bookmark as the bookmarks used to mark a page in a book. Bookmarks do not mark books but mark sites. When you add a site to bookmark, you can later on select the same from the bookmarks list. We can also make different bookmark folders and mark different sites into the folders that categorise them; they all show up in the bookmarks bar. Different web browsers give different names and symbols for bookmark.

To bookmark a site, we have to simply click on the bookmark symbol (it varies from one web browser to another).

They are extremely helpful when it comes to education because; we can mark different sites at different categories. For instance, you create a bookmark folder named Physics and when you find a site for learning physics you can easily mark the site in Physics folder. Then the next time, if you want to visit the site; you can simply click on the Physics folder and easily find it there. In this way, it can benefit your education.

Multimedia:
A system that combines text, graphics, sound, animation and video to interact with users is known as multimedia. Multimedia refers to the use of multiple forms of communication media. In today's world, multimedia systems are used in almost every field, even education.

There are many websites around the World Wide Web using multimedia techniques on many topics. Websites using multimedia system teach lessons in an interesting way. Multimedia makes the lessons-be it maths, science, history or English language-come alive with animation, sound and video clips. It hold's the learner's interest as the lessons are interactive. Even those children who are not very good at studies also start to be fond of education and become good students. Thats why, I will say that multimedia-using websites are very much necessary at educational-sectors.

COOKIES:
Cookies are messages that web servers pass to the web browser when we visit Internet sites. The browser stores each message in a small file, called cookie.txt. These files typically contain information of the most widely used web pages. Whenever, we write a letter on the address bar of the search engine; cookie data will find the list of most visited web pages and give a list of those web pages starting with that letter in advance. The cookies on children's computers might know more about what they like and do not like. They can easily access their desired website. It helps in education. Parents can ensure that their children are using appropriate websites by giving some particular website again and again so that they become cookies. Cookies certainly do not affect education in any way but; it does helps in easy accessibility to websites.

YouTube - Video Learning:
YouTube is a video-sharing website that can give access to videos of any topic. If YouTube can be used properly under the supervision of a teacher or parents, it can be an educational online platform for students. Even teachers, educators and parents can gain different knowledge from educational videos at YouTube. Interactive learning modules and videos at YouTube teach information in a fun, informative and visually alluring way.

E-books:
E-books are digital text books. They can be downloaded from the Internet or just read online. It is in the form of pdf and can be read on the computer screen.

E-books hold an unimaginable potential for innovating education. Some research has shown that children communicate more while looking at e-books. In foreign countries, schools have started teaching kids by e-books.

Writing Feedback / "The Park Area" - Describe your favourite place essay [2]

MY FAVOURITE PLACE

For majority of people their favorite places are in rows of shopping complexes, restaurants, book shops, etc. But my favourite place is the park area. The lovely air, lake, cool atmosphere, lovely milieu, awesome food, and relaxing environment there never quite fail to attract me.

Sweet and fresh air in park areas is simply remarkable. The enchanting smell of lovely flowers spread the atmosphere. In other places in Dhaka city, air is polluted in high rates by dust, coupled with smoke and fumes released from the vehicles. Clean and fresh air in the park is pleasing and unique. We can breathe clean air and our lungs feel fresher.

Lake is the one of the most wonderful things a park has to offer. The sparkling water ripples are irresistible. People often sit at the bank of the lakes and enjoy spending the time looking at the blue sky and water. The touch of nature present in the park is increased highly by the presence of lake. The charismatic nature of the lakes may dupe some men into jumping into it and drowning to their death!

The nice and cool environment is a matchless possession of the park area. The business(busy + ness = business) of the town will move to an end, whenever you will visit a park area.

Good food is an adding taste to a fun-filled visit to a park. Eating excellent food while sitting and viewing the calm scenario of the lake will create such an event that one will never forget.

Lastly, all the components of the park area make the place a peaceful and relaxing one. The natural scene and calmness of the lake will bring your heart peace and you will find it very best to enjoy and relax. Everything there makes us forget our works for a while and just makes us realize that we are children of the nature.

Altogether, I conclude that a park area is my favourite place where I enjoy.
