Dear Sir or Madam,

I am applying for the Master of Science in Big Data at Innopolis University for 2020 intake. The Master in Big Data Science is a world-leading program of study in analytics and data science. As a bachelor of computer science, I aspire to have a career in the field of computer science, mainly in data science. Through this master's degree, I can participate in a variety of emerging careers in the growth of data science.

My interest in data science began when I read about an online Data Science and Technology Series learning class which was organized by Dattabot. Based on The Harvard Business Review, the data scientist has been labeled as the sexiest job of the 21st century. It means that the need for data scientists is increasing dramatically. So, this made me interested and registered for the online class. Data science has many benefits in various fields such as health, business, education, and others. Therefore, Indonesia needs a lot of data scientists.

My involvement with the field of data science was getting more frequent because I was invited to join a new group, the Data Science Research Group (DSRG), which is fostered by lecturers at my department. To expand our community, with the assistance of our supervisor, DSRG joined Data Science Indonesia and changed its name to the Data Science Indonesia (DSI) chapter North Sumatera. As a branch of DSI, DSI chapter North Sumatera also run work programs that were ordered by DSI, such as holding a 4-day Google Cloud Study Jam workshop, where I was one of the two speakers. I delivered material about NCAA® March Madness®: Bracketology with Google Cloud. Besides the external activities such as workshops, DSI chapter North Sumatera also held internal learning classes among the main members about machine learning algorithms, data visualization, data extraction, statistics and other topics related to data science. This community really encouraged me to explore more about data science. That knowledge and expertise can give me a path to pursue my master's degree.

Moreover, because I am pursuing the field of data science, my thesis for my bachelor's degree was also about data science in the field of health where I utilized data from the examination of the clinical pathology laboratory. The purpose of this research was to determine dyslipidemia based on lipid function and also see indications of disease based on complete blood laboratory tests, blood chemistry, and urinalysis. Meanwhile, the method used in this research was classification using the Naïve Bayes Classifier algorithm. This research was done by preparing training data in CSV file format and testing data in PDF file format. At first, my probability predictions for each class were too general and poor. Therefore, I used a probability calibration to add support for probability prediction and it worked well. This study resulted in a quite reliable system for determining dyslipidemia and medical diseases. Through this research, I've learned about the implementation of the Naïve Bayes Classifier algorithm, data preprocessing, probability calibration, framework flask, data extraction and model selection, and evaluation. By doing this research, I've realized that I need to gain more knowledge and expertise in data science in order to generate a more reliable system. Besides this research, I also made other attempts related to data science to study the implementation of the algorithms such as creating a recommendation system and so on. Because of my interest in data science, I decided to continue my master's degree in big data at Innopolis University.

Since I was in college until now, I have joined several online classes related to computer science such as web programming, Linux, data science, data structures and algorithms, probability and statistics, linear algebra, Python, and so on. I realize my shortcomings in the field of data science, that's why I want to pursue my master's degree to excel it. I did not only take online classes, but in 2019, I also took offline classes held by Digital Talent Scholarship for the Fresh Graduate Academy in the field of big data analytics where there was an online test for the selection stage. This Digital Talent Scholarship was held by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology Republic of Indonesia.

With my educational background and experiences, I believe that I am a suitable candidate for this program. This master's program can develop my creative thinking skills and my ability to confront contemporary challenges. It also aimed to provide students with real industry Data Science skills, namely from defining a business problem to presenting the work results, solution implementation and reporting. I need those skills because they are very prominent parts to be a professional data scientist. I have some subjects that I want to study at Innopolis University such as Machine Learning, Big Data, and High-Dimensional Data Analysis.

Innopolis University is quite a new university in Russia, but it is the first Russian university that focuses on Information Technology and Robotics using English as the language of instruction. As the university focused on Information Technology and Robotics, it means that all its educational programs and research are related to these areas. This is the reason why I choose Innopolis University as my destination university. Besides it, even it is a young university, but it achieves a lot such as in its high-quality education, international environment, comfortable living conditions, academic researches and so on. It has many international and academic cooperation around the world that open the way for the students to do the exchange for a semester in the international partners. I also can get an internship experience in top IT companies in Russia and it will be a great opportunity to excel in data science. It also provides many facilities to support the students' education and research, such as The Data Science and Information Systems (Dainfos) Lab focused on large-scale data management and data-driven analytics.

Regarding the Master of Science in Big Data, it offers an accurate and relevant curriculum taught by one of the best faculty in the world. Then, its mission for Master of Science in Big Data is to provide its students with advanced theoretical knowledge and analytical training which would enable them to learn from big data and build state-of-the-art artificial intelligence systems. "Innopolis University is meant to be a brain force, an integral element of a new Innopolis city - the future IT capital of Russia", is the state from Innopolis University which amazes me about how ambitious Innopolis University is. I strongly believe the Innopolis University is a promising university in the field of Information Technology. Then, I believe taking a master of data science will be excellent preparation for my career in data science.

After I come back from Russia, I want to become a lecturer in computer science and information technology faculty in data science specialization in Medan, North Sumatera. My goals are delivering my knowledge and experiences to my students as a contribution of data science development in Indonesia and conducting some research related to data science which can be applied in society and be useful for the progress of Indonesia, especially Medan.

Besides contributing to a university, I want to share my knowledge and skills through communities where I can reach out to people outside who are interested in data science. In Medan, North Sumatera, there are only a few speakers for data science, not as much as in Jakarta. Therefore, that is not easy enough to find a speaker.

Then, I want to make Data Science Indonesia chapter North Sumatera more active and do collaborations with other communities.

I understand that many other competitors have the same goals as me. However, I am sure that my efforts and abilities that I have can open the way for me. Therefore, I would be honored if you choose to accept my candidates for this master's program. At the same time, I am aware of possible challenges and high order to successfully complete this course. I hope to be accepted on this chance to realize my future career.

What is the benefit of becoming a GOI-IES scholar, to yourself (personally and professionally), to Ireland, and to your country of origin?

I strongly believe that Ireland would be an excellent destination to pursue a master's degree in Data Science and Data Analytics for graduates who have technical or mathematical problem-solving skills because the curriculum is very well-designed and as per industry requirements. A qualifying degree along with certifications of the basic technology adopted at the industrial level will be the key criteria for me to become a professional data scientist and data analyst. Ireland is well-known as IT-hub of Europe and there is a 50% increase in the demand for a graduate in MSc Data Analytics in Ireland for the last 5 years, so I will have a lot of job opportunities to improve my expertise in data analytics and data science. An MS in Data Analytics and Data Science in Ireland would be apt to master business and data understanding. By studying data analytics in Ireland, I will be equipped with the required skills that be able to support me to be a professional data scientist and data analyst in the long run. For example, I will be able to solve complex scientific problems and analyze large data sets using a range of theoretical tools. Then, MSc in data analytics in Ireland is mostly coupled with computing science or data analytics, which enables me to take up roles as a data analyst as well as a data scientist. Because my education background in information technology, it means that I am good at computing and mathematics, I believe the master in data analytics in Ireland is the right choice for me. My future career is being a lecturer with data science and data analytics specialization, so if I have the skills that match with industrial requirements, then I will be able to produce human resources matched with market needs. Currently, Indonesia and Ireland collaborate on research and higher education. Among other things, by agreeing to exchange lecturers, researchers, and experts, and promote joint scientific and research programs and projects. The collaboration was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education Mohamad Nasir and Irish Minister of Education and Skills Richard Bruton, at the Office of the Ministry of Research and Technology, Jakarta, Monday 17 September 2018. Indonesia-Ireland is expected to jointly develop human resources and strengthen bilateral relations in the fields of research and science. Indonesia and Ireland agreed to carry out joint research in 3 fields, namely information, communication and technology (ICT), agriculture and energy. Accepting me as one of the awardees is one of Ireland's steps in realizing a collaboration program with Indonesia, namely increasing cooperation in the scholarship program. Certainly, my great experience studying story in Ireland will make Ireland be recognized as a great place to study, especially in IT because I will recommend Ireland to others. If I get a master's degree in data science and data analytics and master it, I who want to be a lecturer will certainly be able to support the improvement of human resources in data management, which certainly will greatly support the progress of Indonesia because, in Indonesia, the available data scientist is less than needed, data management in Indonesia is still inefficient and fragmented, and data science is not yet a priority in Indonesian universities in general. Besides it, by being a lecturer, I can help the collaboration between Indonesia and Ireland in data science and analytics research. For Indonesia, Ireland is a strategic partner because it is the only English-speaking country in the European Union. Through increasing the number of students from Asia Pacific countries and improving academic mobility between Ireland and target countries, Ireland can achieve the targets in Irish Educated: Globally Connected.

Explain the extent to which you have a long-term interest in Ireland and how will you promote links with Ireland during your time as a GOI-IES Scholar and following your studies, as GOI-IES Alumni?

I choose Ireland as my study destination because Ireland has a worldwide reputation for high-quality education where the Irish education system is one of the best in Europe. Ireland is the only English-speaking country in Europe, so it will be comfortable to cope up with the course and also with society. Ireland is host to many global technology companies such as Microsoft, Facebook, Google and others where it is well-known as the European hub to over 1,000 leading multinational companies (MNCs). It is the second most attractive country globally for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) after Singapore. As a student in the IT field, namely data science, and analytics, by studying in Ireland, I certainly will have the opportunity to do an internship and work in a technology company in Ireland. It is also possible for me to join the innovative research programs from around the world through strategic research facilities from many global companies in Ireland. Indonesia and Ireland also have cooperation in the field of information technology, even in September 2019, Ireland and Indonesia collaborated on research and higher education. Also, in terms of international students, Ireland is an ideal study destination because of its richness of culture, breathtaking scenery, safe environment, and friendly people. During my study in Ireland, I will actively share information with Indonesian people who seek to study destinations and scholarships through the blog and social media. There are several scholarship communities and study abroad that I can cooperate within Indonesia to share stories about studying in Ireland. Besides it, I want to join the Indonesian Student Association in Ireland to be able to contribute more to promote Ireland to Indonesian students. For my future career, I intend to be a lecturer with data science and analytics specialization. Applying for internship programs in Ireland

As a GOI-IES Scholar, how will you extend yourself beyond your project/studies to become actively involved in Irish society in order to maximize your academic/cultural exchange experience and raise awareness of the GOI-IES scheme in Ireland and beyond?

Firstly, I intend to do internship programs in Ireland to excel in Data Science and Analytics such as Dublin Internship Program. By doing the internship, I strongly believe it can help me be ready in the industry or real-projects. Ireland is home to the leading global Multinational Corporations where there are many giant technology companies such as Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Facebook and eBay.

Secondly, I will join badminton sport club which is good for my health and well being. Besides it, I can make friends with others member and if I am capable for competitions, I will greatly enjoy it.

Thirdly, I intend to join the Students Union where I can directly influence and organize events or societies. Besides it, by joining, Students Union, I certainly can participate in societies and communities in the university where I can meet new people, improve my expertise and interests, do volunteering and so on. By joining communities, I can connect to local, national and international communities and do some collaborative projects with the communities.

If I become an international student in Ireland, I intend to join the Indonesian Student Association in Ireland, where I can promote the GOI-IES mission objectives to my country such as through the Indonesian Students Association in Ireland 's social media empowerment in Instagram, Facebook, and the Indonesian Students Association in Ireland's website as a source of information and for information seekers studying in Ireland, then hold seminars of studying and scholarships in Ireland via online. By doing this, the interest of Indonesian students to study in Ireland is expected to increase and Ireland will be recognized by Indonesian people as a strategic studying destination. One of the Indonesian Students Association in Ireland's work program is to establish intensive communication with the Embassy of the Republic of Ireland in Jakarta as a means to strengthen relations with the Bureaucracy Governments of Indonesia and Ireland. If I am the recipient of this scholarship, of course I will be happy to be a speaker for the seminar of studying and scholarships in Ireland for others information seeker in Indonesia.
