Book Reports / Concepts of 9th Grade writing for essay To Kill A Mockingbird [3]

This was a great book! One of the papers I wrote about this book talked about prejudice and we were told to include many quotes from the book, and have three strong ideas.

Whatever you choose your topic to be, make sure to have a strong thesis explaining the three things you are going to talk about then have your paragraphs for each.

For each paragraph, have at least 2 examples and 1 or 2 quotes to support what you are talking about. In your conclusion, be sure to restate your thesis and always

cite where you are getting your information. Don't give your opinions because you need to cite where you get your information.

I hope this is helpful and good luck :)

Undergraduate / "Death of my Father" (University of Washington Prompt 1.B) [2]

Sorry to hear about the death of your father ... but your essay is really good ... I really like how you talk about his death and then talk about how you overcame that.

But I think you should also focus on how it made you focus on school, how it changed your perspective on things. Also, you use present and past tenses together, try to look at that as well.

But overall, really nice.

Undergraduate / "What will my classmates think of me now?" - experience common app [2]

I really enjoyed reading this .. it's really good .. and I really like how you end with what you began and what you did to get out of your comfort zone.

Maybe you should go into a little depth of how you used to be.

I hope this helps! and good luck :)

Undergraduate / 'instructive, supportive and compassionate' - personal statement-speech and language [3]

this is pretty good ... but I think you need to organize it more, what will make your statement stand out from anyone else's ... talk about your struggles ..

what was the hardest thing you had to face and what did you do to get out of that ..(improve in a way) .. you kind of talk a lot about your career, but

you need to go into depth.

I hope this helps! good luck :)

[Moved from]: Impact the natural disasters of 2010/11 have on the global economy? How to start?

What impact will the natural disasters of 2010/11 have on the global economy? How should these events affect future political, business and personal decisions?

I really don't know where to start. I was thinking of writing about the earthquake in haiti and how that has caused food prices, manufacturing and infra structure to decrease. I just don't know where to begin.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Scholarship / (learning english) - write about a time when "hard work" paid off [4]

Learning English - Write about a time when "hard work" paid off.

Five years of hard work invested into the English language.

Yellow dictionary lying on the floor, waiting to be looked at but never seemed important until the day single tears filled up the bed like a river. Every day I would go to school sitting in my desk when the pretty little girls sitting next to me would ask me to say a word and then turn around and giggle at the word said. I would always wonder what was so funny. This was until one day when my closest friend told me that it was because I did not know how to speak English, and my other classmates doubted my ability to learn. Their discouraging remarks included telling me that I might as well stop trying to speak it.

I ran home crying my eyes out and finally opened the book, going through every word, asking every family member to help me enunciate words, spending hours at the library reading books to help build my vocabulary, and having flash cards wherever I went. If learning english meant staying up every night until the sun came up, then that is what I did. Little steps every day like learning words around my house, how to say "room, bathroom, kitchen," food I ate and animals, and using them in sentences led me to where I am today. Knowing that all my hard work paid off is the greatest satisfaction to my personal accomplishments. After all, that same yellow dictionary still lays in my room, but on a special shelf, looking at college words.

Undergraduate / "Every time I think of my grandmother" - Short Answer + Personal Essay [6]

I lost my grandmother that year too! very nice essay.

I think you should re word the 4th paragraph maybe saying something like this ..

One of the regrets I seem to hang on to is avoiding her upon returning to Hong Kong to cure her illness.
Being afraid of tears running down my face, i kept quiet, knowing I was not strong enough to handle the
pain...

I hope that helps :)

Undergraduate / Pseo Program (PSEO) participation and academic goals (University of Minnesota) [3]

motivation, overcoming, and time management

Explain why you would like to participate in the PSEO program and discuss your academic goals and what you hope to gain from your participation in the program.

University of Minnesota Post Secondary Program (PSEO) stresses three key ideas: motivation, overcoming, and time management. These core concepts work hand in hand enabling a high school student to explore life as a college student. I know I am this person waiting to fulfill my goals as a PSEO student.

I believe as a high school student, I have what it takes to be successful at University of Minnesota. At this school, I hope to be able to explore a variety of topics. I also know that I am present with the opportunity to take any classes I want and be taught by some of the most learned and dynamic professors in the world.

If I were required to pick a major at this instant, I would choose nursing, to care for others and save lives. I would love to learn about the experience, and communication with patients.

I believe that University of Minnesota is the best place to be successful. It is a place where a career in nursing can be fulfilled successfully. This school is also located in a great area where there are many opportunities for students. Overall, I am certain to be successful at this school and hope to be apart of it.
