Writing Feedback / What is the best way to pursue happiness? In class essay assignment [4]

Here are my views about happiness. Some point you may include in your essay.

Happiness is a state of mind and changing over the time. So the state of happiness in one's mind is not static. Materials bring happiness to the people for a short period. A new bicycle can bring happiness to a child for a few days. The happiness brings to your life if you can satisfy with what you get rather than what you like to have. Over ambitious people rarely achieve happiness. They run one after other for happiness but never satisfied. There are people who lead a happy life because they satisfied what they process and what they get. Cultivate good habits and correct life style one can avoid unhappiness. Good habits and life style one can maintain healthy life. That is very important for a person to be happy. How can a sick person be happy? However, people in this world subject to different situations therefore happiness would not remain through the life.

Writing Feedback / TOEFL: Artists have the capability of soothing the minds of the people. [3]

It is good to make an in-depth thinking on scientists and artistes. All trades are equally important for us. Here I am sending some other thoughts about the topic.

All the machines that used by people in their day to day life are products of combine effort of scientist and artistes. Who design the attractive shape and beautiful interior of a car? It is a work of artistes. Architects are professionals who design buildings, towns, bridges etc. We know there are beautiful bridges in the world. Architects are artists who have some knowledge in engineering too. Therefore in addition to entertainments artistes make this world beautiful and attractive.

Writing Feedback / The advertising is the main cause of unhealthy eating habits. [6]

Here are some facts about foods

I do not agree with advertising along can change a persons habit of eating. There may be some effect but it is not the root cause. Root causes are ignorance on the food values people's attitudes. Our education system and mass media have not given enough effort to educate our people in respect of healthy food. Also people are not known how nutrients are affect or health and daily activities. It is well known fact fresh foods are the best in the sense of nutrients. Also people are little lazy in marketing and food preparation etc. Therefore they rely on the advertisements in buying prepared food.

Writing Feedback / Agricultue as livelihood [3]

Welcome your comments and grammer corrections

Agriculture is the main livelihood for people in some Asian countries including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the Thailand. In Sri Lanka more than 60% of people engage in agriculture production activities and connected services. A few decades ago by exporting tea, rubber, coconut and spices earned the highest foreign exchange or dollars. In addition to the above commodities Sri Lanka now exports fresh and processed fruits and vegetables to the Middle Eastern and western world. However, the position of foreign exchange earnings by agriculture products has dropped to third place now. Remittances from the migrants/ workers abroad are the highest foreign exchange earnings to the country now. According to recent statistics there are more than 1.6 million Sri Lankans work abroad. Majority of workers are women and they serve as housemaids in Middle Eastern countries. However, agriculture is the main force of the country's economy as it supplies our staple food rice for 20 million people.. Sri Lanka is almost self-sufficient in rice production and also fruits and vegetables. However, per capita consumption of fruits in Sri Lanka is lower than the quantities recommended by nutrients. The total value of the agriculture products that generate in Sri Lanka is the highest all.

Tea, Rubber and Coconut, known as plantation crops and play an important role in the national economy in Sri Lanka. Apart from the foreign exchange that brings, plantation crops generate employment opportunities to the mass. These crops found as large plantations and manage by companies. Different categories of workers including field officers and laborers are employing in these companies. The field officers and laborers can be treated as the farmers of these crops. The price fluctuations in these crops would not affect the workers very much as they are wage earners. When there are very big price drops the government intervenes and helps to make adjustments. Young people like to work in this sector as there is no uncertainty of income and also rewarded with a lump sum or monthly pension when they reached the retiring age.

Farmers who are engaging in other crops such as paddy, fruits, vegetables and fields' crops the situation is different. Individual farmers have to grow and sell the products in the open market. Sometimes farmers sell their products to whole sellers through agents middle men.

Prices are usually determined in fruits and vegetables on the day's supply and the demand. In respect of rice or paddy prices are much more stable compared to fruits and vegetables but still slightly dropped during the harvesting time in Sri Lanka. The prices of fruits and vegetables fluctuate year round and thereby incomes of the farmers are also change and there is some uncertainty. There are instances farmers have to sell the products lower than cost of production. This is because of same type of vegetables received to whole sale centers in bulk. In Sri Lanka usually there is no any advance agreement with the whole sellers and farmers of fruits and vegetables as in developed countries. Taken into consideration from the past experiences in respect of income received, or the seed materials that they have at hand farmers decide what to grow. Also vegetable production can be affected by unusual climatic changes and pest and diseases etc. Therefore uncertainty of income from vegetable production is much more than any other crops. In respect of paddy profit margin is lower but uncertainty of crop failing is lower than the vegetables. This is one of the reasons why young people are not very enthusiastic to take agriculture as their livelihood. If the governments want to attract young people to agriculture these uncertainties have to be dealt with proper solutions..

Also the size of the land available for a farmer is limited in Sri Lanks. Average vegetable farm is around 1/5 of hector. And most instances available land is not sufficient to generate income for a family to lead a decent life. Especially in vegetable production land preparation, planting, harvesting etc are carried out by manually. Due to small size of the fields use of big machinery is not profitable. Also machines can not be used in some farmer fields due to the setup or the location. This is also draw back and may one reason to young people moves away from the agriculture. Sri Lankan Government has realized some of the short comings and now making some adjustments. Efficient marketing system also helps to increase farmers' income.

A few whole sale marketing centers were opened recently with necessary storage facilities in order to compete in prices of perishable commodities. This is very positive step towards get away from middle men in vegetable and fruit marketing. Then the farmers can get higher prices for their products. Also government is buying rice or paddy at fixed prices in order to keep the paddy prices realistic value.

Efficient and low-cost transport and preplanned vegetable production schedule can reduced the over production. In Sri Lanka we have extensive railway lines covering most of major agriculture production areas. Also government is planning to build new railway lines cover the other production areas. However, still we have not fully used the railway in transport goods. Transporting goods by railway is much cheaper than transport by trucks. Very small quantities of fresh vegetables and fruits export to Middle Eastern countries. The quantity is less than one percent of the production. There is potential to expand this and export vegetables to Weston countries. Farmers could fetch higher prices for the products if they can produce fruits and vegetables with required standard. This is a other scheme that can workout for increase farmers income. In order to attract young people to agriculture the government can device a system to pay compensation for crop fails and pension scheme for farmers. I think people will take agriculture as their livelihood if it is profitable and income is sufficient for comfortable living. For this governments have to play major role.

Research Papers / Quantitative Research paper-should same sex couples be allowed to adopt children [6]

Lord Buddha lived more than 2500 ago. He has not mentiond about same sex couples. In Buddhism there is no place for same sex couples. If you like to have a healthy well balanced person then both male and femal parents are important. A child recognized his parents seperately from very early stage of development. Therefore his respons are different to mother and father. You can write some psychologicial aspect on child development in your essay.

Writing Feedback / Violance Against Women [2]

Please write your ideas about this topic. Thanks

Violence against women

. Woman's status or position in a society is depending on where she is living. In western countries women are more independent and more-or less equal to male in the society. It is different in the Asian countries. Woman in south Asia is much dependent character and her main aim is to build a family. In South Asia there is no life without family for a woman. Asian society treats her as a mother. However, there seems to be changing this position with the globalization. Our society believes woman should have a family in order to complete her life. Also our society expects her purity in the marriage. These cultural norms were developed over the years with religious background. Buddhism and Hinduism are religions that believe some kind of male dominance in the society. Buddhism has described how one should treat his wife with respect. According to Buddhism one should provide his wife everything she need for comfortable living and necessary protection. According to Buddhist philosophy husband is the head of the family and the decision maker. But that does not mean he can ill treat his wife or ignore wife's views. In Buddhism only males can become full priests. Male Buddhist monks are our real clergies. This is also reflects the state of the male in the society. Still male dominance attitude is present in the Asian cultures. South Asia has family centered society. Not like earlier days now women are employing almost every field. Under this situation women are more expose to violence than before. New rule and regulations are required to protect women when they are in the outside from home. However, we have to take into consideration the culture when we want to change the position of women in the home or any law introduce in order to deal with home violence against women. By education women make more independent and they will come to know their rights. Then the males can not easily violate the women rights. More home violence was recorded in the bottom stages of societies. This indicates poverty is also a factor that contributes lot in the home violence. Laws give strength to the women. But it should not aim for the punishing husbands. Family is a voluntary association with trust, faith and love. Punishments are not help to build trust, faith or love. However, I strongly believe poverty and lack of education women are subjected to home violence easily.

Writing Feedback / Age of marriage in today's world [5]

Your arguments about the age of marriage are quit right. However, I would like to give some additional points for your topic.

1.Legally there is a minimum age for marriage. So people can marry after that age
legally.

2.One should marry when he/she physically and mentally mature. Then only the couple can face to the problems successfully and also have healthy children

3.Before marry one should have stable employment or source of income. That is why some people have to wait.

4.Right age for marriage depend upon the individual and also the country he or she
lives.
