As a person who is highly interested in the areas of signal processing and machine learning algorithms I always try to find out about the new discoveries and challenges. That is when I came to know you through your admirable articles of this area that are highly applicable for having efficient systems studying --- signals for --- estimations. The articles that I first read interesting me to a further study of yours and your students' works at --- in --- research group, which is outstanding. If I could get a chance to be part of your lab I will work towards the development and usage of --- algorithms for having an efficient disease diagnosis and treatment mechanism mainly focusing on ---- analysis within the application of ----signal processing.

--- has shown a great deal of potential as a decision making algorithm by making possible the human centered smart systems in medical and other applications. It helps to yield the incredible results under the investigations of several research areas. The diagnosis and treatment system that exists still has a lot of shortcomings. And on the other side we do have an advancement of the technologies that can be of great use in having an effective system for diagnosis patients, know the risk level and treat them accordingly. The problems and opportunities that exist and the ones that need to be created makes me more interested towards upgrading my knowledge and skills to research and contribute to the academic and research discoveries leading having efficient health care system. the ever-changing wireless communication technology

Studying undergraduate program on Electrical and Computer Engineering was my first step in being part of the ever-changing wireless communication technology. At the beginning of my 4th year study I had an opportunity to join communication and electronics engineering stream that enabled me to introduce myself with the more of communication courses. My study includes a four month internship time at a broadcasting media agency which helped me to know more about practical world of the field in addition to theory. I had further enhanced my knowledge and skill in wireless communication system with studying my masters on communication system engineering. During my study time I had introduce myself and upgrade my knowledge and skill with the courses of wireless and mobile communication, telecommunication, advanced digital signal processing, advanced digital communications, information theory and coding, optical communication, data communication, RF system design and other core areas of the field. Also my thesis works for both my undergraduate and postgraduate study are on the areas of wireless communication field.

Immediately after the completion of my undergraduate study I was appointed as a lecturer in the university which gave me an opportunity not only to share what I had but also to learn continually in an everyday basis. My responsibilities as a lecture are to give lecture, tutorial classes and also supporting students during their laboratory sessions on the courses such as wireless and mobile communication digital signal processing, network analysis and synthesis and electronics. Besides my teaching work I am also working as a section adviser for more than 100 students in order to help them in everything to the success of their study to achieve their future career plans with having a leading role. Also I had an opportunity to attend seminars and conferences during my work and that gave me an insight for the future development of my study and work. During those times there were presenters from different places and their works made me realize I need to explore more of the wireless communication technology in order to upgrade my knowledge and skill by studying further with the university in a high quality so that I can achieve my goals.

In returning to my home country immediately after the completion of my postgraduate study, I will go back to the university that I am working now. Being a lecturer enables me to apply the theoretical knowledge and practical skill that I conquered to the study of wireless communication systems. I will be part of the wireless communication research group that would conduct problem solving researches for the development of the society by cooperating with the concerned bodies.

In Ethiopia there are very few number of specialist Doctors available who are working in some hospitals which is found in some cities mostly in the capital city. However, the number of patients who need to be seen and have a continual attention by those specialists are very high. Due to that all these patients from all over the country will be sent to those few hospitals which takes a longer time to be checked up by those specialists due to the queue that exists in those hospitals. And that will cause the illness of those patients to become worse and even leads to their death while waiting.

As a wireless communication system graduate; I will use the knowledge, skill and network I acquire in University of Southampton to work on a project to have wireless patient monitoring system to overcome the stated problem and improve the health service provision of the country. This projects deals with the implementation of wireless communication system in medical application as the wireless communication would provide remote accessing capability in order to keep track of critical health conditions with a real time health monitoring system. And this project will work on designing, developing and implementation of a wireless based remote patient monitoring system for remote follow-up and supervision of patients which will have a vast application for patients who are in far place from specialist doctors. Also it will enable the specialists to assist a lot of Doctors and health officers from all over the country in facilitating early diagnosis, accelerate care delivery and prompt intervention to help make informed, thoughtful decisions which will improve the health care system and increase its accessibility. I will work together with governmental and non-governmental organizations and also professionals of the related field by cooperation for the success of this long term project.

There are many reasons that draw my attention to this wonderful university. It had been the long ambition of mine to study and work on the field of wireless and telecommunication world in order to be part of the emerging technology. This driving force in addition to the skills and experience I attain, present interest I have for upgrading my knowledge and need for the success of my plans encouraged me to pursue my postgraduate study in wireless and telecommunication systems.

Even if I took wireless and telecommunication courses during my undergraduate study, the knowledge I gained during my internship time at a broadcasting media was crucial. At that time the agency was rebuilding every technical areas using communication equipment of latest technologies. By that time I had an opportunity to introduce myself with new wireless communication from theoretical and practical point of views with the help of peoples who came from the manufacturing companies abroad to implant the components and making them functional.

This was further expanded during the final year of my undergraduate study in doing my thesis on the application of wireless communication system and the various researches I had reviewed made me to be much more interested to the field, I even can say it was the main turning point for the current research and study interest I have.

Due to my interest I did continue my masters study on communication systems engineering which gave me an opportunity to explore more of wireless and mobile communication, telecommunication, digital signal processing, radio frequency designs and other core areas of the field. I had done my thesis work on RF spectrum efficiency analysis with the help of cognitive radio network which combines wireless and telecommunication areas.

With what I had until now I have a future short term plans after graduation that are; continue being a lecturer and doing problem solving researches on wireless and telecommunication area for the betterment of life of the society. Also in the long run, I have a plan to work on a project that uses wireless communication to the medical application in having a wireless based real time health monitoring system. for the patients at far distance from the very few available specialists and few fully equipped infrastructures, so as to contribute in upgrading the service provision of health sector.

However, due to the limited resources and facilities available at my area it is difficult to achieve my plans which lead me to the need of further study of the field that I am interested in with a place in a much better facility.

a women in the engineering field

Being born and raised in a third world country I do not have that much opportunity to spend most of my time with modern technological equipment. That makes me to be curious to know more about the technology while I grew up. In addition to this, becoming highly interested on the subjects of mathematics and physics leads me to the study of electrical and computer engineering with the stream of communication and electronics engineering. During the final year of my undergraduate study I had an opportunity to work my project on wireless communication area which had put a cornerstone for my current study, work and future plan. The insight I got at that time was further developed while I was selected to work as a lecturer being the top women scorer on my faculty. Teaching students of electrical and computer engineering course and studying my MSc in communication systems engineering enables me to develop my knowledge with the courses and research. As a person in a teaching profession at the university, I had an opportunity to meet with different peoples from different institutions due to seminars and conferences also I had an opportunity to meet with professionals when they came to our campus as a guest lecturer from different universities which helped me to upgrade my knowledge and have a good insight in my profession and field of study. To meet with different peoples from different organizations and have a network with them is very essential to develop the knowledge and skill and contribute to the community with knowledge, experience sharing and material support. I learned its value when I meet with a professional that contributed to upgrading my knowledge on my profession.

Two years ago I met with a professor while he came to give a block course from another university as a guest lecturer. In returning to my home country immediately after the completion of my postgraduate study, I will go back to the university that I am working now. In our country, there exists only a single government controlled telecom service provider without full coverage capacity and poor network quality. Even to those with network coverage most of the areas are giving a 2G and 3G services and 4G is available only in the capital city of some specific areas. I do believe one of the vital things for the development of the country is to be equipped with the latest technologies with a good system design. I will work on this by participating in designing an efficient system to have good network coverage by using latest technologies with less cost. I will apply the knowledge I acquire in UK to achieve this by doing a research which will enable the country to have a good coverage and quality of service within some years time by cooperating with the concerned body.

The number of girls who is studying Engineering is very low and after returning to my home country this is the project that I will be doing to help girls in the education. One of the main tasks of this project is supporting girls to join an elementary education with awareness creation and material. Also this project will help girls who are interested in engineering field but who do not have an encouraging environment to achieve that. These girls will be supported by supplementary material and also by giving tutorials on engineering related subject areas which will be extended to the girls studying engineering in the universities. During my elementary education time, I was a member of the girls club helping students in their education which was extended up to establishing a library that gives service only for girls. At that time I was working as a volunteer librarian on my free time which enables me to realize how important it is in helping to upgrade the girls result and confidence. That is when I had realized how important it is to help girls in order for them to set their own goals and achieve it which starts with education.

One of the areas of the DFID works in my country Ethiopia is education. I really am passionate about this work of the UK government and regarding women there are programs like GEC (Girls Education Challenge) which is focused on educating girls to have a better life which is the core thing that I want to do up on returning home in cooperation with the UK government and concerned bodies.

While I went to the rural areas to visit my relatives I always see how hard it is for girls to get an education due to the unawareness of the society. I do try my best to teach them about the importance of education by exemplifying the educated peoples they know and try to convince them to send their children to a school especially girls since they are the less privileged ones. And I want to expand this besides my relatives and their neighbors with the help of DFID in Ethiopia.

In this planet single people is not capable of living alone and do the anything alone. Everything is successful when it is done with in a group. For the first time when I started my career as a lecturer, all I know was what contents of the course should I cover only. The first thing that I had realized is that, I need to communicate with my colleagues to have a know-how about things from a teacher point of view since I had no experience before and I know about things as a student. By communicating with colleagues I manage to get every necessary information, materials and guide which had enabled me to start first day of my class as a lecturer with a great confidence. I achieved that with the help of my colleagues and that is one good advantage of a network I had observed during that time. And then starting from my second year of work time I do what my colleagues has done for me for the new comer colleagues in helping them with material, information, guidance and any other things that I can.

There are a lot of seminars that will be held in the campus by internal and external peoples. From those seminars I do benefited in having an insight for my research areas for my postgraduate study and also for my future research plans by communicating with the researchers.

In studying my postgraduate study we had a great network with my fellow classmates who are also lecturers from five different universities in the country. And the network we had enable as to share everything and help each other on education and even share about our work systems in our universities.

Even with that network I manage to help them on how to use a MATLAB software which is now helping them to perform their thesis work. We always share the work methodology in our workplaces, materials and also what we gain and understand about technology and others things which we are doing still now and will continue to do.
