Writing Feedback / Even though some organisations oblige their workers to dress smartly the efficiency is more crucial [NEW]

Some organisations believe that their employees should dress smartly. Others value quality of work above appearance.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Some corporations require their staff to dress smartly while other organisations consider quality of work is more valuable than appearance. In my opinion, both statements are able to be applied in different workplace. It depends on the types of the occupation itself.

With regard to the employees who are obliged to dress smartly, the organisations ask them to do that because their job is related with many people such as accountants, bankers, architects and lawyers. For instance, an accountant has to dress well when he or she wants to meet their clients in order to get their trust. By dressing smartly, it is expected that the clients will make a deal for the project. In all, appearance plays a significant role in such profession since it will be the first impression and considered as a professional.

Different with white-collar workers, appearance is not as important as quality of work in blue-collar profession. Work performance is more necessary than physical look in several occupations such as mechanics and labours. Taking a shoes factory as an example, the employer will not pay attention to their labours' cloths since it does not affect the products but he will notice how the quality of shoes that have been made by them.

To sum up, even though some organisations oblige their workers to dress smartly while others believe work performance is more important than physical look, I argue that both opinions are acceptable in different occupations. The regulation applied depends on the profession of the employee.

Writing Feedback / Clothes? There are more principal factors that should be considered before assessing people [2]

Some people say that the clothes people wear are the most important indication of what they are like. Others, however, say that people should not be judged by the clothes they wear.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Labelled someone by their appearance is being debated. Some people argue that the most essential indication of what people like is by seeing what clothes which they wear while the opponents say that people should not be judged by their look. I personally argue that although first impression is important, judging someone by their clothes is not fair since there are several values that can be used for assess them.

There might be a reason why people think that they can judge someone by looking at what clothes that he or she wears. It cannot be denied when there is a job interview, an interviewer will see how an applicant dressed at the first time they come to the company. The applicant who is not well dressed will be judged automatically as an impolite person since they will be assessed but they do not show their best clothes. As a consequence, that applicant may not be considered as a strong candidate to get the position in the company.

On the other hand, it is not fair to judge people by only looking at their style before they show their capability. There are several points that can be used as consideration. First, the way people behave is the most significant factor. It would be useless if the well-dressed applicant shows bad attitude during the job interview. Moreover, skills and capabilities are also important for assessment. I believe that these factors are more vital than someone's appearance.

To sum up, I strongly agree that people cannot be judged only by their clothes because there are more principal factors that should be considered before assessing people.

Writing Feedback / Majority of employees had very good relationships not only with their supervisor (2005-2009) [2]

The pie charts which are the results of surveys compare the proportion of relationships between workers and their supervisor and their colleagues in 2005 and 2009. Overall, it can be seen that the majority of employees had very good relationships not only with their supervisor but also their fellow workers.

To begin, 61% of employees felt that they had very good relationship with their supervisor in 2005 and this figure increased to 65% in 2009. Moreover, the percentage of workers who thought they had good relationship decreased steadily from 26% to 22% by 2009. However, employees that had no supervisor and those who had fair and poor relationships with their supervisor were fairly low, below 10%. In 2005, 2% of workers did not give their answer but in the next survey, they did.

With regard to relationships among workers, in 2005 roughly three-fifths of workers had very good relationship one another and rose to seven in ten in the next four years. Similar with relationship between employees and supervisor, relationships among workers also fell by 3%. On the other hand, employees who do not have co-workers and had fair relationship with their peers took a very small number.

Writing Feedback / Businesses' vision is to make money but they also have to take other factors seriously [2]

The purpose of businesses is to make money and they should concentrate only on this.

Do you agree or disagree?

Generating profit is the aim of businesses and they should only focus on their purpose. I personally disagree with that statement since even though to earn money is main goal of businesses, they should not only pay attention on it since there are several things that they have to concentrate in order to reach their goal as well.

To begin, companies should focus not only on financial matters but also customer satisfaction since customers are a foremost key of their future. If customers do not satisfied with a company's services or products, they will not buy them. As a consequence, company's profit will be influenced. Research conducted by Business Magazine in 2013 reveals that customer satisfaction level is the major factor that can affect whether customers will buy the products or not. In all, companies have to consider about this issue and try to pay attention on improving their performance.

In addition, employees in the companies also need to be considered because they are valuable assets of a business. Without their workers, a company will not be run well and find it hard to reach their targets. Based on research in 2011 conducted in several cities in Indonesia showed that employee's prosperity is able to affect the worker's performance. This means that focusing on their employees will help companies to achieve their goal. On the other hand, it cannot be denied if companies have profit orientation but they should consider other aspects also need to be noticed.

To sum up, I do believe that businesses' vision is to make money but they also have to take other factors seriously so they can accomplish their purpose smoothly.

Writing Feedback / According to the diagram, the heat comes out to the upstairs through several media. [3]

The diagram illustrates how air circulation in a house leads the heat lost and energy wasted. It can obviously be seen that thanks to a great amount of air leaking into the house, the heat is pushed outside the house through the ceiling.

First of all, the wind is able to come into the underground due to the installation of a tap outside the house. Also, the air enters the laundry room in the basement by the dryer vent. With regard to the main floor, an electrical outlet allows the air to spread into the bath room. Moreover, from a large window and a door, the air blows into the main room and air leaking from the underground also ups along the crawl space behind a fireplace. A fan vent and a window in the kitchen allow the wind enter the whole room.

According to the diagram, the heat comes out to the upstairs through several media. In the bath room, air leaking goes out through the bathroom fan vent and recessed lights. However, the heat is pushed to exit from the main room by attic hatch. Because of recessed lights, the hot weather in the kitchen is able to go out.

Writing Feedback / The conclusion is simple: married couples are happier than the single people [3]

Those two bar charts provide information about the percentage of happiness levels for married and unmarried people in the US and the effect of children on happiness ratings of people who have married. Overall, it can obviously be seen that married couple are happier than the unmarried. For married couple, the highest happiness level belongs to the couple who have children under 18 years of age.

To begin, married couples has roughly above 40% of their happiness ratings in which couples in the 18-29 age group are the happiest couple among others (45%). The outstanding figure among single people categories is people aged over 65 (34%) while people 18-29 and 50-64 years of age have the lowest percentages which are 21% in both categories.

With regard to the levels of happiness of married couples, all of age groups do not have significant gap. The figures are more than 40% for each category. Writing Feedback / Young people who take a job before college gain experience and extend communication skills [2]

Some suggest that young people should take a job for a few years between school and university.

Discuss what the advantages and disadvantages might be for people who do this.

There is a suggestion that students who have just graduated from high school should be a worker for several years before they go to university. This statement might bring several positive and negative implications for people who do this.

With regard to the benefits that will be experienced by those young people who take a job before go to college, they might find out skills that they will not get in a lecture such as interpersonal skill. By having work experience, they will learn by themselves how to interact with or communicate with their colleagues properly and how to give an opinion to their employer in a good way. Moreover, they will more responsible not only for themselves but also their job. Furthermore, if they have experienced in workplace before continuing their study in university, they are able to give more appreciation and respect their parents since they have felt how difficult to earn money.

On the other hand, this decision may bring some drawbacks. First, people who have finished their study at senior high school are roughly 17-18 years old. At this age, they may not mature enough to enter workplace that might make them feel under pressure due to the new environment. If they cannot handle it, they will be stressed and do not involve in such work again. In addition, taking a job let them to make their own money and cause them to feel comfort with that. As a result, this comfort zone encourages them to not continue their study in higher education.

To sum up, the common believe about taking a job before starting to enrol university definitely brings several advantages and disadvantages for young people.

Writing Feedback / The wind turbine is able to generate electricity with a simple design and process. [2]

The wind turbine's design and its location are illustrated in the diagrams. It can be seen that a wind turbine is able to generate electricity with a simple design and process. Also, the output of such turbine depends on location where it is built.

According to the diagram, a wind turbine consists of steel tower, blades, a wind sensor, a generator and a computer. The process starts when the wind passes through the blades which made from fiberglass or wood. Next, the wind sensor records the speed and the directions of the wind. This information is sent to the computer for adjusting the direction and angle of the blades. As a result, the blades spin thanks to the wind and generator can produce 1.5 megawatts of electricity.

In addition, the turbines can be placed in some locations such as near a coast or in a mountain. A wind turbine locating in a mountain obtains the maximum of wind strengths while other turbines in different location do not. Domestic turbine only produces 100 kilowatts of electricity.

Writing Feedback / The media should focus on exposing ordinary people since it will bring benefits for humans [2]

The media pay too much attention to the lives and relationships of celebrities such as actors, singers or footballers. They should spend more time reporting the lives of ordinary people instead.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In this era, the media tend to report much information about public figures' lives and their relationship. It is believed that they have to pay more attention to people who are not famous. I strongly agree with this statement since focusing on reporting celebrities' lives may influence adolescents' behaviour and ordinary people can be an inspiration for human being.

To begin, exposing too much information about famous people's lives may bring negative implication for teenagers' attitude. Celebrities such as actors or singers have many huge teenager fans that adore and regard them as their role models. To illustrate, some actors or actresses are likely to have hedonistic lifestyle. They often go to party, get drunk and even use drugs. As a consequence, these may lead adolescents to imitate such way of living as their behaviour.

In addition, the media is required to often report about ordinary people since there are some positive sides that can inspire the society. For instance, there were some students in Java Island, Indonesia who invented new technology that was used for alternative fuel. Interesting news like that should be revealed in order to inform public so they will know and can use it. It is also expected that such information can motivate other students to be more creative. On the other hand, it is acceptable if the media publish some news about popular actors' private live in order to get profit but the proportion of the news should be restricted and consider about negative contents on that.

To sum up, instead of paying much attention to famous people, the media should focus on exposing ordinary people since it will bring beneficial effect for humans' lives.

Writing Feedback / Recuirtment of teachers in Ontario; the percentage of English-language tutors had a downward trend [2]

Information about the recruitment of English and French-language teachers in Ontario from 2001 to 2007 is illustrated in the line graph. Overall, it can obviously be seen that even though it saw a decrease in the beginning of the period, the percentage of French-language teachers had an upward tendency. However, the percentage of English-language teachers had a downward tendency.

According to the data, in the beginning of the period English-language instructors stood at virtually 75%, higher than French-language tutors (70%) then it declined sharply in the next two years to two-fifths. In contrast, French-language teachers stood at seven in ten and reached a trough of roughly a half before it rose markedly to almost 70% in 2003. In spite of some fluctuations in the next following years, the recruitment of French-language tutors finally reached a high of approximately 73% at the end of the period while the demand of English-language instructors hit a low of less than a third.

Writing Feedback / In this fast-changing world, a lot of children live in the way that can threaten their health. [2]

Many children these days have an unhealthy lifestyle. Both schools and parents are responsible for solving this problem.
To what extent do you agree with this statement?

In this fast-changing world, a lot of children live in the way that can threaten their health. It is believed that not only schools but also parents have responsibility to tackle this issue. I strongly believe that both parts play a huge role for changing the unhealthy lifestyle of the children since children have high frequency to interact with them.

Children spend most of their time with their parents in the house. It leads parents to have an authority to control their sons or daughters to practice healthy living. For instance, mothers are able to cook healthy meals for family member every day and teach their children why eating healthy food is essential. Moreover, children can be instructed by their parents to have a good sleeping-pattern which is very vital for their growth. As a result, children will be familiar with healthy lifestyle thanks to their parents' role.

In addition, schools are also the foremost key to change unhealthy lifestyle of their pupils since the students will study there at least six days in a week. In the school, pupils can be taught how to live healthily such as washing their hands after finishing an activity. Furthermore, schools are able to encourage students to have many physical activities such as running, swimming or playing football. As a consequence, children still practice their healthy living even though they are not in the house. On the other hand, another figure such as the government may be responsible for dealing with such problem but they might not have a crucial influence as big as parents and schools have.

To sum up, based on the aforementioned points, I agree that parents and schools are responsible for coping such problem as children spend much time with them.

Writing Feedback / Information about several issues which people have when they live in other countries [2]

first of all, i think that the introduction does not have same meaning with the question. "unhealthy lifestyle" is general, "unhealthy eating pattern" is more specific. i think it is better if you want to mention "unhealthy eating pattern" in your writing, you can do that in body paragraph.

also, i think your body paragraphs have not answered the prompt well. the task asks how far you agree about the statement but i think that you focused on the reasons and solutions. so i suggest you:

in the first body you can explain why you agree that parents are responsible for solving the problem.
in the second body you can explain why you agree that teachers are also responsible for solving the problem.
in the third body (optional) you can explain briefly other figures that also can help to solve the problem (e.g: government)

Writing Feedback / Is having a healthy lifestyle difficult these days? [4]

Some people say that in the modern world it is very difficult for people to have a healthy lifestyle. others, however, say that it is easy for people to be healthy and fit if they want to be.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion

In this fast-changing world, having a healthy lifestyle becomes more crucial. Some people argue that it needs a lot of effort for people who want to start living healthily while others think that it is not difficult for people if they tend to have a healthy lifestyle in order to keep their body fit. I personally believe that if people want to be healthy, they are able to start such lifestyle easily.

On the one hand, people find it hard to have a good way of living due to the increasing number of companies who sell fast food and advanced technology. As many people become busier with their work, many companies provide fast food which is actually does not good for human's health as a quick solution such as KFC, Pizza Hut and McDonald's. Moreover, cutting-edge technology also takes part in human's unhealthy lifestyle. Thanks to convenient devices such as computers, mobile phones, and game consoles, people tend to spend their leisure time to use such devices instead of taking exercise. As a consequence, it may lead them to have a sedentary lifestyle.

On the other hand, people say that in many big cities, it is easy for living healthily because there are many facilities which they can use for keeping their health. They can go to swimming pool or do more exercise in fitness center every weekend. However, if they do not want to pay for such facilities, they can go to sport center which is provided by local government freely or do other kinds of simple exercise such as cycling or jogging. Furthermore, there are many local restaurants that sell healthy food if people do not have time for preparing their own food. They are able to decide whether they will eat healthy food or junk food. In all, i would say that there is no excuse if people want to leave in a good way.

To sum up, I do believe that people will find it easy if they want to start a healthy lifestyle in order to keep their health. They can choose to live in a healthy lifestyle or not.

Writing Feedback / Both, the community and individuals itself, will get many advantages from university education [3]

Some people believe that the aim of university education is to help graduates find better jobs while some others hold that there are wider benefits for the individual and the society. Discuss both viewpoints and give your opinion.

There are two points of view regarding higher education. Some people's perspectives opine that helping the graduates seek a satisfactory job is the vision of education system in university. However, others argue that not only will the graduates get benefits for themselves but also for community. I believe that either for the individual or the society will experience the benefits of university education.

On one hand, it is commonly believed that well-paid job often requires people who have graduated from university. According to the data from Ministry of manpower and transmigration, more than 90% companies in Indonesia hire people who have finished their first degree as the main requirement for a good position. Nevertheless, individuals who have lower education may usually get a physical job such as labors, shop keepers, or office boys.

On the other hand, in fact, there are wider benefits for the individual itself and society as well. Undergraduate students will get both hard skills which are skills relating to the course and soft skills such as discipline and time-management skill. Also, as students in university, they tend to give responsibility to their community by holding charity events. Through that event, they also learn how to get sponsorship and get interpersonal skills unconsciously. Furthermore, in the last semester, there is a compulsory program that has to be taken by the students. This program is similar with community service whereas the students will stay in particular time in remote area to help the inhabitants to develop their village.

To sum up, I tend to agree that the aim of university education is not only for the students. Both the community and individuals itself will get many advantages from such education.

Writing Feedback / Providing either health or education facilities is more crucial than allocating money for art sector [2]

Many countries spend a lot of money in art. Some people think investment in art is necessary, but others say money is better spent on improving health and education. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Government policy regarding spending money on several sectors continues to be a controversial topic among society. Some people argue that spending money in art is essential while others believe that it is better to allocate money for paying attention to health and education sector. I believe that money should be spent on improving health and education facilities for a better life.

On the one hand, supporters of investment in art may believe that art sector will generate gain for a country. For instance, many tourists decide to visit some countries thanks to art galleries there. They want to see the masterpieces directly and it leads the countries to obtain benefits from tourism sector due to the arts. Furthermore, by investing on art such as book, local dance and music will keep a country's culture and history alive for next generations. Also, the culture will be an identity of that country.

On the other hand, the opponents say that allocating money for improving health and education is the best choice since those sectors are key factors and basic necessity in humans' lives. To illustrate, some remote areas in Indonesia have lack of medical and education facilities. If they need medical treatment they have to go to the city that has a hospital to see the doctor. It is dangerous if they have an emergency situation and need to be treated immediately but they have to take a long journey to reach the inner city. In addition, children who want to get a formal education have a difficulty to find the nearest school in their village. As a consequence, they should take a long time up to two hours to reach their school by walking.

In conclusion, it is absolutely clear that providing either health or education facilities is more crucial than allocating money for art sector. It will help the villagers who live in the critical area due to lack of such facilities.

Some people claim that public museums and art galleries will not be needed because people can see historical objects and works of art by using a computer. Do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

There is a controversial issue about the importance of historical places and art galleries in some people's perspective. They argue those places will not be essential since objects in the museums and art works in the galleries are able to be seen on the computer. I personally disagree with that statement because by using a computer to see objects in both places instead of seeing them directly brings more drawbacks.

To begin, it is obvious that museum is one of the places that can attract either local or international tourists in a country. Taking to the most visited museums in the world as the examples, Palace Museum in Beijing, China and Louvre Museum in Paris, France have 14 and 9.26 million visitors in 2014 respectively. This immense number brings advantages for the countries especially regarding their national income. If all of citizens tend to use a computer to see objects in museums, this trend will cause the countries experience a drop in their income from tourism sector.

With regard to art galleries function, a way to expose and give a tribute to artist's masterpieces is by organizing an exhibition in art galleries. In art galleries, art connoisseurs will meet their favourite artists directly and enjoying their art works. Also, it may allow them to buy the artistic works if there is an auction. These activities cannot be replaced by only seeing on the computer. Again, if the community prefer to see the works of art on the computer than seeing them directly, it will lead artists to feel that their works are less valuable. As a consequence, their desire to create a great work will not as big as they did before.

To sum up, I strongly believe that the existence of museums and art galleries is absolutely required to support both countries and artists. Some negative effects will be brought by only using computer to enjoy the objects. As an alternative, seeing such objects on computers can be done for a reference before visitors come to such places.

Writing Feedback / Is it true that public libraries are not necessary since new technology can replace their functions? [2]

Maintaining public libraries is a waste of money since computer technology can replace their functions. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

The role of maintaining public libraries is widely debated, with some people claiming that it is not necessary as it spends a lot of money and advanced technology such as computer can substitute the function of the libraries. However, I personally do not entirely accept this because of several reasons.

To begin, the enthusiasm of reading a printed media is still immense. It is proven by there are many books are published every day in the whole world even though e-books have been existed. Also, people nowadays still tend to borrow books or other printed media since they are portable. They also do not like reading from a screen.

A further reason to be wary of this idea is old books are still definitely required for researchers or students who want to conduct some research. They need previous studies as sources of their references and libraries are the places that provide their needs. Moreover, the importance of public library as a source of information is used for people who cannot use cutting-edge technology. Sometimes, elderly citizens still eager to get new information by reading a book. If there is no complete library, they will have no place to upgrade their knowledge. In all, it cannot be denied that the presence of public libraries is still relevant in this day and age.

Of course, it is true that sophisticated computer technology is beneficial for human lives. I would say that it can support the community to improve their knowledge rather than saying that it can replace the function of public libraries.

To sum up, I strongly believe that it is completely wrong to say that maintaining public libraries is a waste of money. Either public library or modern technology has their own function.

Writing Feedback / The population of Senior Citizens has an upward tendency in developed countries [NEW]

The line graph illustrates the percentage of senior citizen population (aged over 65) in the United States of America, Sweden, and Japan from 1940 to 2040. Overall, it can obviously be seen that with the exception of the USA, all countries have upward tendencies and especially Japan, it is predicted that it will have the largest proportion of old generations in the future even though it has the lowest proportion at the beginning of the period.

To begin, in 1940, Japan only had 5% of population aged 65 and over and it is followed by a slight drop and remained stable at roughly 4% for over 20 years. Next, Japan experienced a noticeable rise start from 20th century and it is estimated that the proportion will grow sharply in 2030 and become the country that has the highest proportion of old people more than 25% in 2040.

According to the data, Sweden, which had 7% in the number of senior citizens in 1940, had the middle position at the beginning of the period and is also predicted that it will be in the same position in 2040 with 25% old population. However, from 1940 to 1980, the USA, which had the highest proportion in the early period, had an upward tendency but it saw a gradual fall and it is estimated that it will be the least proportion among others in 2040.

hi ilham, i like the whole essay but let me give some correction to make it more perfect.

... works in any nongovernmental organization (NGO) concerning in poverty as an example,

... friendly environment is another factor influencing inhabitantsoccupants to stay longer in particular corporation or job.

Therefore beside incentive, both those factors are highly taken into consideration.(i think this sentence is not needed because it has same meaning with the previous sentences in the last paragraph)

Writing Feedback / IELTS 2 : opinions about children contribution in working experiences [3]

hi icha, i would say that in general your writing is good. you answer the task correctly but let me give you suggestion to make it better.

i think the last sentence in the first body is not needed since it makes the paragraph to become not coherence. it would be perfect if the last sentence is deleted or you can move it to the second body because the sentence is the advantage of being the working children.
